Apple TV Names Newsy — Best TV App for 2015

Newsy is a multisource video news service that highlights perspectives from various media outlets and packages them into concise, easy-to-digest news bites. Clips are available on the web, and on mobile and Over-The- Top (OTT) platforms.

It analyses how global news organisations cover the day’s events. Their unique method is by adding perspective and analysis to reporting on world and national news, including politics, entertainment, science and technology. They are a digital video news service that provides “news with the why,” built to inform and engage by delivering today’s top stories across platforms.

Its content is available in on-demand and linear formats on Over-The-Top (OTT) services including Apple TV, Watchable from Comcast, Pluto TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Google Chromecast; connected television including Xumo; on mobile for iOS, Android and Kindle Fire; and at

Newsy is a wholly owned subsidiary of The E.W. Scripps Company (NYSE: SSP). The company was founded by Jim Spencer in Columbia, Missouri who was early to predict the popularity of mobile and multisource video news.

According to a recent eMarketer report, seven out of ten US internet users watch OTT video: This year, 181.0 million people in the US will watch video via an app or website that provides streaming content over the internet and bypasses traditional distribution, according to eMarketer’s first-ever forecast of over-the-top (OTT) video viewership.

It is also revealed that Video Service users of OTT via Service Providers are on the rise sharply according to the latest statistics shown.

This latest achievement and recognition by Apple is a major announcement from Newsy, where within a short time period of 3 months, they have successfully launched multiple over-the-top platforms, including Watchable from Comcast, Pluto TV and Apple TV. Apple also named Newsy a Best New App upon the launch of the new Apple TV in October and showcased Newsy as a best-in-class app at its recent developer conferences.

Apple TV is a digital media player and a micro console. It can be viewed by being connected to s high-definition widescreen television via an HDMI cable to the TV’s HDMI port. Its Wi-Fi capability is also used to receive digital content from the iTunes app using AirPlay or directly from iTunes Store, which is then streamed to the TV.

It can also play digital content from the iTunes Store, Netflix, Hulu Plus, Now TV (UK only), YouTube and Vevo, along with the TV Everywhere portals of several cable and broadcast networks, and the video subscription portals of three of the four major North American sports leagues:, NBA League Pass and NHL GameCenter. It plays content from any OS X or Windows computer running iTunes.
